Key Figures of the Rebellion
Spartacus
Spartacus had once been a soldier, but after becoming a gladiator, he led the revolt. As stated on History.com, he was a brilliant leader and strategist, enabling him to win against several Roman armies.
Plutarch writes that Spartacus was a shrewd and competent man, implying that he could not have merely been a fugitive slave.
Marcus Liciius Crassus
The general who ended this uprising was Crassus. He took up the reins after the previous failures of the Romans and reformed the army as well as instilled discipline.
As Plutarch states, Crassus played an important part in putting Spartacus down.

Pompey the Great
Pompey was also part of the elimination of the last rebel groups following the main battle. Even though Crassus had done most of the work, the contribution made by Pompey led to the eventual Roman victory.
This also contributed to making him more powerful in Rome politically.
